Moderation is the key. Once you use anything in abundance you have turned to a life of abuse. Sadly, you are abusing yourself.
Drinking responsibly is the only way one should partake. As for drugs, I'll use prescription drugs as my example, use sparingly, in many cases there are far better ways to deal with what ails you. Same can be said for OTC drugs.

In all seriousness, I absolutely agree with you. Moderation is the key in most cases. There are some things out there that I think are just bad news--heroin, crack, meth. Not because they're more immoral, but more addicting. But I decided a long time ago that even though I have no desire to try it, I don't have any issues with marijuana. It's not nearly as big a deal as it's often made out to be.
